| What is Christian Counseling? This is a good question. I believe the apostle Paul answered it best when he wrote: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. ~ 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 We at Stenzel Clinical Services believe that Christian counseling is first and foremost, compassionate. We “mourn with those who mourn,” and “rejoice with those who rejoice.” Jesus cared for people who were hurting and we believe in carrying on this tradition. Each of us have received comfort from God in trials which we have faced and from those trials have learned to offer the comfort we have received from God. It is our prayer that you would understand the greatness of God’s immense love for you. We believe that Christian counseling is based on truth. That truth is the Word of God. The Word of God is highest authority and provides all that a Christian needs for “training in righteousness.” We believe in challenging believers to live a better life through obedience to God’s word. God’s word is relevant to everyday life, therefore it offers great wisdom concerning relationships, communication, emotions, finances, family issues, etc. We believe in the power of prayer. God hears and desires for us to call out to Him. We will offer to pray for you and your situation. We can also lead you to passages of scripture that have prayers that are relevant to what you are currently going through. Stenzel Clinical Services is a safe place to come and receive healing. We believe in the authority of the local church. We desire to support the work of local churches by ministering to those in the church that require more time than church staff have to offer. In addition, the local church is not perfect and at times can cause additional pain. We are here to listen and to support you through the hurt. Our team of therapists practice their faith in different denominations. Stenzel Clinical Services is not affiliated with any denomination. We offer Christian counseling to anyone who seeks it. Whether you are Catholic, Baptist, EV Free, Lutheran, non-denominational, just curious about God, or not affiliated with a church at all, we are here to offer Christian counseling to you in a non- judgmental environment. Each of our therapists earned their Master’s degree in counseling and are licensed within the state of Illinois. What does this mean? Primarily, because we are licensed, we can bill your medical insurance to assist you in the financial aspect of therapy. Secondly, each of our therapists have completed a master’s degree that included classes in diagnosis, listening skills, models of therapy, family therapy, addiction, and professional ethics. Therefore, each of us completed a nine month clinical internship under the direct supervision of an advanced member in counseling. In short, our therapists have completed three years of professional training in order to be competent clinicians. Lastly, we are bound by the ethics and laws of our profession.
