Stephen Wright, MA Licensed Professional Counselor
Hi. My name is Stephen Wright. I am a licensed professional counselor. You are someone who has inestimable value. Helping you find that value and helping you through your current struggles is my passion and goal. Whether you are dealing with problems regarding your own thoughts and feelings or are having difficulty in your relationships, I believe you can find answers. I would like to help.
My own journey through life included seeking counseling which made a tremendous difference, helping me cope with life as it sometimes seemed to run me over. I began my life as a pastor and still carry ordination papers. In that capacity I developed a deep empathy for others. The transition from pastor to counselor led me to school, first to receive a Master’s in Teaching from Olivet Nazarene University and then to the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (Argosy University) to earn my Master of Arts in Community Counseling.
Through my education I gained knowledge and skill to better assist people in need. I have worked with children, youth, young adults, adults and older adults. My experience includes helping couples getting married, already married, divorcing, and blending families. I work with substance abusers and their families. I have experience helping with PTSD, severe mental illnesses like bipolar and schizophrenia, both individuals trying to cope with these as well as family members. I have personal experience with the elderly and families trying to cope with dementia caused by such diseases as Alzheimer’s. Having been a pastor, I have a unique insight into the spiritual journey and understand the importance of spirituality in your life.
As a counselor I want to help you find hope and move past the things that may have gotten you stuck. It really is possible.
